Wildlife Invasion
The Village will provide a trap, at no charge to residents, for a period of one (1) week. To request a trap, contact Animal Control at (847) 671-8258. If the resident does not trap the animal within the given time frame, he/she may call Animal Control and request an extension contingent upon availability.
It is the resident’s responsibility to bait, set, and maintain the trap. The following information is a list of bait for each animal type:
Bait Guide
- Raccoon: Fish, sweet corn, crisp bacon, marshmallows
- Skunk: Entrails of chicken, fresh & canned fish
- Oppossum: Fresh or canned fish, apples
- Woodchuck: Corn, lettuce, apples
We ask that the trap be set around 7:00 PM. Please do not set the trap during the daytime as we do not want to trap squirrels, cats, etc.
Whether an animal has been trapped or not the resident must call Animal Control at (847) 671-8258 by 8:30 AM. If your call is answered by a telephone recorder, please leave a message that includes your name, address, and what type of animal was caught in the trap.
Please do not remove the enclosure from around the trap. In the event that a skunk is trapped it will help protect the animal control officer when removing the animal.

Dogs
It shall be the duty of the owner of a dog within the Village to obtain an annual license for each dog over the age of four (4) months. A rabies vaccination must be shown in order for a license to be issued. No person shall permit any dog to run at large in the Village at any time. All dogs shall be kept under restraint. No owner shall permit their dog to deposit any offal or noisome substance on any parkways, alleyways, neighborhood yards, etc.
Cats
It shall be the duty of all cat owners to have a rabies vaccination for each cat over the age of four (4) months. No person shall permit their cat to run at large in the Village. All cats shall be kept under restraint.

Mosquitoes
As temperatures rise, so does the threat of the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus. Public health officials are asking all residents to take precautions to avoid bites by limiting your time outdoors between dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active. If you must be outdoors, wear long-sleeves, pants and socks, and use insect repellent with 30% DEET, primarily applied to clothing. Residents can also help reduce the mosquito population by eliminating breeding sites by cleaning roof gutters, storing containers upside down, covering trash containers to keep out rainwater and emptying birdbaths and wading pools every few days. It also helps to keep grass and weeds cut short and to make sure your screen doors close tightly to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
Dead bird collection is available by calling (847) 671-8240 and to determine if the bird is suitable for testing. Village inspectors are larviciding mosquito pools that are found and reported. Also, backyard catch basins can be treated by Inspectional Services by contacting them at (847) 671-8240.
